Book Review: Written in the Stars by Aisha Saeed

I read this book for 2.5 hours, that is what moon+ reader said. That's the fastest book I've read so far and I am in awe on myself. So this book made me stay up all night just to finish it therefore it's great. I made mo go 'HUHUHUHUHU' LOL!

Naila’s conservative immigrant parents have always said the same thing: She may choose what to study, how to wear her hair, and what to be when she grows up—but they will choose her husband. Following their cultural tradition, they will plan an arranged marriage for her. And until then, dating—even friendship with a boy—is forbidden. When Naila breaks their rule by falling in love with Saif, her parents are livid. Convinced she has forgotten who she truly is, they travel to Pakistan to visit relatives and explore their roots. But Naila’s vacation turns into a nightmare when she learns that plans have changed—her parents have found her a husband and they want her to marry him, now! Despite her greatest efforts, Naila is aghast to find herself cut off from everything and everyone she once knew. Her only hope of escape is Saif . . . if he can find her before it’s too late.

I cried a lot while reading this book and I bet the 0.5 of my reading time is mostly me crying while reading. THE FEELS THIS BOOK GAVE ME! This book surpassed my expectations of it and the time I spent reading it in a school night was so worth it. I do not know how would I explain this book to share my thoughts of it, it is just so ugh! Please just read it so you can understand what I feel right now. Let us cry together.

Book Review: Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

After reading a bunch of fantasy novels I was craving for something contemporary, something that is realistic and I can relate to. I was searching for a book to read on my phone and I saw this book, I looked it up on goodreads and I instantly remembered how I wanted to read this book.

“Dead girl walking”, the boys say in the halls.
“Tell us your secret”, the girls whisper, one toilet to another.
I am that girl.
I am the space between my thighs, daylight shining through.
I am the bones they want, wired on a porcelain frame.

Lia and Cassie are best friends, wintergirls frozen in matchstick bodies, competitors in a deadly contest to see who can be the skinniest. But what comes after size zero and size double-zero? When Cassie succumbs to the demons within, Lia feels she is being haunted by her friend’s restless spirit.

Laurie Halse Anderson explores Lia’s descent into the powerful vortex of anorexia, and her painful path toward recovery.

This book is about the life of Lia specifically her battle with anorexia nervosa, to those who do not know what it is anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by immoderate food restriction, inappropriate eating habits or rituals, obsession with having a thin figure, and an irrational fear of weight gain, as well as a distorted body self-perception (thank you wikipedia).

The reason why I really wanted to read this book is because there was a time that I hated my body and wanted to loose weight quickly, without exercise, so I kinda stumbled upon this anorexia instagram accounts and they were losing a lot of weight in a short period of time so I was really insterested, and I wanted to be anorexic (so stupid of me), thus wanting to read a book about it to learn more and at the same time add a book to my read shelf in goodreads. But now I read it for the reason of entertaining myself and being aware of what is the life of the people with this sickness.

I really like this book, not because it is about anorexia and I learned a lot about it, but because in this book you will see how people around Lia loves her so much and really supports her to be well again. And to be honest I was actually focusing on the supporting characters like her Mom, Dad, friends, and sister because it is so nice to learn that there are people that will be there for you no matter what even if you push them away they will still be there. I also love how the story ended it was such a nice thing to read. It made me emotional and I shed a few tears in some parts of the book, it is really well written and I liked it so mcuh, the crossed out words are a nice touch to the story.

Overall it was an amazing experience to read such a wonderful book that opened your eyes to anorexia and also how you're not alone even if you feel like you are.

Book Review: Daughter of Smoke and Bone Trilogy by Laini Taylor

I've been wanting to read this series ever since I first saw it on goodreads, I already has an ebook and was ready to just dive into it but I stumbled upon some booktubers who said that this book is so amazing so I restrained myself from reading it on my phone because I wanted my own copy of it. After a few months I decided to read it because I can't seem to save enough money for this book and whenever I have money I forget about it. Why am I telling you this? Read on and you'll know.

Again to avoid spoilers for the other two books I will just paste the blur of the first book:

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands", she speaks many languages - not all of them human - and her bright blue hair actuallygrows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

I hate to say this but I didn't enjoy the book as much as I want to and expected to, especially that I heard and read a lot of great things about this book. I think there are 2 main reasons why I didn't like it. Number 1 is that i read it on my phone. I do not know about you guys if you experience this, I am the type of reader who gets into the story more when I read it on page and not on screen because I feel like the screen is hindering my brain from imagining the story, this is why I told you about how I wanted to buy this book earlier. Number 2 is that a lot of this book is new to me I always have to stop and reread a few paragraphs because I do not know some newly-created words Laini Taylor used making it hard to complete a scene to imagine and it was also hard to imagine the chimaeras because there some instances where you get thrown with tons of details and your mind is just can't process a lot of information.

I'm giving it 3 of 5 stars because the story was original and I can feel that I will enjoy this story if I reread it again in the future, but with a physical book, and also I love how Laini Taylor used cliche things in a not annoying way, like forbidden love (no cheesy lines that made me cringe) and wars that lasted for ages (the reason is acceptable, what I mean is they all have the reasons to fight and not just stab at anyone). I will reread this again I promise and next time with a book that looks so gorgeous! LOVE THE COVER!

Book Review: Trylle Trilogy by Amanda Hocking

I read this series after a few days when I bought the whole trilogy in a sale. It was sold for only 250 php, or roughly 5 dollars. I immediately bought it because it was so cheap, my had is itching to buy a book and I fell in love with the covers.

To avoid some spoilers I will just paste down below the blurb of the first book, which is switched.
When Wendy Everly was six-years-old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy finds out her mother might've been telling the truth. With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed—and it's one she's not sure if she wants to be a part of.
To be honest I didn't expect this series to be something that will make me read it more and can't stop thinking about it. I was ready for a short trip in this world, more like a pit stop actually. But I was wrong. At first the book was a bit slow, has a lot of cliche/cheesy lines and I kinda predicted what happens next. I finished the first book in four days then I immediately started torn. I didn't remember much about the second book although I know that I liked it with all the little plot twists and more world building, although school works are a big barrier for me finishing this book. When I got to the last book I can't seem to put it down and I find myself reading as much as I can in times I am usually not reading, like commuting. I finished the book in 3 days, and again school works were dragging me down and slowing my progress in these books. I really like this series, but not enough to be my favorites, it gets better and better in each book!
